Inaugural Address Prof. Dr. Ir. Ruud Bartholomeus

Event details

Ruud Bartholomeus, Principal Scientist of the Ecohydrology team and Chief Science Officer at KWR, has been appointed Extraordinary Professor of Plant Water Stress and Regional Water Management at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) from 1 July 2024.

His research focuses on developing knowledge on responsible water use, analysing both water management and water use by different sectors. Central to this is matching regional freshwater supply and demand. Ruud combines scientific knowledge, system insight and technological solutions to enable policymakers, water managers, water companies, industry, agriculture and nature management to work together on sustainable regional freshwater availability.

Ruud aims for a robust freshwater supply and seeks collaborations with partners in research, practice and policy. Social impact and the implementation of scientific research are central to this. Ruud fulfils various roles in the field of water availability: he is, among other things, chairman of the Dutch Hydrological Association, member of the Freshwater and Drought Expertise Network and member of the core team of the Blue Route (National Science Agenda). With this chair, he will further strengthen the bridge between science and society.

Location: Omnia Building, Wageningen University.
