Bioanalytical tools: state-of-the-science

The aim of the 11th BioDetectors conference 2018 was to bring together scientists involved in the development and application of in vitro effect-based bioanalysis technologies. KWR researchers presented work on chemical risks on the water system of hydrocarbon extraction and other KWR research on development, new applications and implementation of bioanalytical tools.

The 11th BioDetectors conference 2018  in Aachen

In Aachen, a vibrant city with clear presence and appreciation for RWTH Aachen University, the 11th BioDetectors conference 2018 was held on September 13-14. The aim of the meeting was to bring together scientists involved in the development and application of in vitro effect-based bioanalysis technologies. Applications, technical developments and research strategies were presented from different research fields such as food (packaging) safety, green toxicology in industrial applications, anthropogenic impact on ecosystems and water quality testing.

Contributions of KWR researchers

PhD-student Ann-Hélène Faber (associated Utrecht University, KWR and the Amsterdam Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics) presented her work on the evaluation of chemical risks on the water system in relation to hydrocarbon extraction. I presented an overview of ongoing KWR research on development and new applications of bioanalytical tools, and Dutch initiatives to support the implementation of bioanalytical tools in water quality monitoring. It was a great opportunity to discuss the state-of-the-science of bioanalytical tools (bioassays) for water quality and other matrices, and ongoing and foreseen collaborations with the conference organizers and other participants.

Milou Dingemans gives her presenation about ongoing KWR research on development and new applications of bioanalytical tools, and Dutch initiatives to support the implementation of bioanalytical tools in water quality monitoring.
