KWR-researchers share their knowledge at AIWW

During the Amsterdam International Water Week (AIWW2023) from 6-9 November, water sector professionals will focus on worldwide water issues to find sustainable solutions. The goal is to inspire, communicate and find integrated solutions. The biennial event revolves around the theme: Water in Transition – Accelerate the action! KWR will, of course, be there. This year, KWR will be celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the collective drinking water research programme BTO/WiCE with the drinking water utilities. KWR researchers are strongly represented on the AIWW 2023 programme.

• On the first day (6 November), Nicolien van Aalderen and Andrew Segrave will lead the round-table session Fostering Intergenerational Dialogue in Water Management for Tomorrow’s Challenges. Click here to register.
• KWR Director Dragan Savic will give a Keynote Deep uncertainties in urban drinking water infrastructure on 7 November from 8.30-9.15. Click here to register.
• Big questions about small particles will be addressed in Stefan Kools’ workshop: Micro- and nanoplastics: small particles in water trigger big questions (7 November, 11.30-13.00, Dome 2).
• Circular solutions in the water cycle of the WiCE (Water in the Circular Economy) research programme by Henk-Jan van Alphen and Hilde Passier: Implementing circular solutions in the water cycle – impact, opportunities and barriers (8 November, 15.00-16.30, Room D4).
• Hilde Passier and Inge van Driezum will show visitors natural solutions to improve water quality: Nature-based solutions improving water quality, for healthy and resilient water systems for people and nature (8 November, 13.00-14.30, Room 3).
• Niels Hartog will take a more in-depth look at groundwater management and drinking water in coastal regions: Regional strategies and advanced groundwater management to sustain freshwater supply in coastal regions under stress of salinization (8 November, 15.00-16.30, Room D3).
• There will also be a KWR presentation on predictions for drinking water: Prediction of organic micropollutant removal in drinking water treatment processes by Bas Wols (7 November, 14.00-15.30, Arena).
• Nienke Koeman will discuss the topic of milk, farmers and water: Resource recovery – Milk, farmer, water: water reuse from dairy producer to farmer (8 November, 10:30-12:00, Dome 1) and also present the poster Circular chemical use: producing acid and base with (bipolar) electrodialysis ​from IEX regenerate.
