Aron Aksan is a researcher in the KWR Hydroinformatics team. He has a background in biology, medical laboratory research and bioinformatics. His expertise focuses on the intersection of data analysis, machine learning and software development, and specifically on the application of computational methods to biological issues. At KWR, Aron works on the application of machine/deep learning models and the development of software tools for water research. This includes designing analysis pipelines and interactive dashboards that transform complex datasets into practical insights. For example, in the BioHydroIT project, Aron is developing a bioinformatics toolkit in Django that will help with the efficient processing and visualisation of NGS data. This contributes to the improvement of microbial analyses in the water sector. In the European Waterverse project, he is working on models that facilitate the exchange and improved accessibility of water-related data. He is also active in the Data Validation and Reconciliation project, studying how errors in datasets can be automatically detected and corrected so that water utilities can trust the available data more. In addition, he is working on methods for decision-making under deep uncertainty. That involves developing technologies that help water utilities to formulate flexible strategies for challenges such as climate change and population growth. With his expertise in Python and R, he also helps researchers to develop practical and innovative solutions for the water sector.
