Joeri Willet

Joeri Willet is one of the scientific researchers in the Water Infrastructure team. He is specialised in the combination of GIS data with optimisation methods. Joeri is convinced that the integration of GIS data with optimisation can provide for better decision-making. The use of GIS data makes it possible to take into consideration the local situation and conditions during the optimisation. In his doctoral research Joeri used land-use data to automate the first design phase of distribution networks. He then connected these automatically generated pipeline routes to digital optimisation methods. This combination makes it possible to shape new (decentralised) water distribution networks. The starting point of his work is that human water systems must be compatible with the local natural water systems. Joeri is glad to work with other researchers and professionals to realise a circular water system for the Netherlands.
