Martijn Antheunisse has been working as an ecological researcher at KWR since April 2025. He received his doctorate from Utrecht University in 2007 with a study of the landscape ecological and biogeochemical context of vegetation development in the floodplains of large lowland rivers. He then applied and developed this knowledge further with water management authorities in the Netherlands: water authorities and, more recently, Rijkswaterstaat. Martijn lived in southern England for seven years, where he worked for several NGOs with the goal of managing and preserving the unique nature of limestone streams and rivers. As a project manager and later as director, he acquired experience during that time with leading complex projects, stakeholder engagement and running organisations. In recent years, Martijn’s work has included drafting management plans for Natura 2000 sites and contributing to landscape ecological system analyses. At KWR, Martijn’s expertise in the ecohydrology team will be deployed in a range of projects where issues relating to ecology, nature restoration and nature management are central.
