Dr. Sanah Majid Shaikh ia a Scientific Researcher/European Registered Toxicologist (ERT) in the Chemical Water Quality and Health team. She holds a doctoral degree in Biology, with a specialization in Toxicology. At KWR, Sanah conducts research and risk assessments of contaminants related to (drinking) water quality and associated potential health impacts. Her work serves the needs of drinking water companies, government agencies and industries. She is the lead scientist for several projects under the Joint Research Programme of the Dutch drinking water companies. Her expertise also extends to the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), where she contributed to the development of guidance documents on the impact of drinking water treatment processes on pesticides and their metabolites. Sanah has also contributed to commissions from the Dutch government to peer review drinking water standards for various emerging substances. In the event of chemical incidents, Sanah conducts rapid toxicity and risk assessments by deriving provisional drinking water guideline values for public health safety. She is also involved in the development, validation and implementation of innovative testing methods, strategies, and risk assessment techniques related to chemical water quality. Sanah also has a scientific role in the European Partnership for the Assessment of Risk from Chemicals (PARC), where she collaborates with other experts in development of next-generation chemical risk assessment aimed at protecting human health and the environment.
