Laboratory assistant (32-40 hours)

Are you ready to play an essential role in groundbreaking water research? KWR is looking for a driven Laboratory Assistant who will help us contribute to the water quality of the future and sustainability through chemical and microbiological analyses.

The position

As a Laboratory Assistant, you contribute to optimal progress of the laboratory processes. Your tasks are versatile:

  • You record the offered (chemical) samples in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), including the analyses and storage to be performed;
  • You independently outsource laboratory analyses that KWR does not perform itself to external laboratories;
  • You are the point of contact for questions related to the laboratory warehouse and responsible for the proper execution of the desired management thereof. This includes the purchase of consumables and chemicals and contact with suppliers;
  • You ensure that the required chemicals and consumables are available on time;
  • You ensure the correct disposal of chemical and microbiological waste;
  • You formulate actions, take initiatives for the (legal) safety aspects (from NEN and ISO standards, RI&E) necessary for the laboratories;
  • You arrange the maintenance and calibrations of laboratory equipment.

Your profile

  • You have an HBO work and thinking level with a (chemical) laboratory background;
  • Accurate working and organizing are tailor-made for you;
  • Flexible working is no problem for you and you relieve your colleagues to achieve the best result together;
  • Independent and goal-oriented working suits you;
  • You can communicate well, both verbally and in writing;
  • You are physically able to lift boxes and waste barrels (max. 23 kg), stand and walk for a longer period of time;
  • You do not have the wish to execute analyses in the laboratory.

The team

As a Laboratory Assistant, you are part of the KWR Laboratories. 25 people work here, divided over two specialisms, namely microbiology and chemistry. The analysts work from state-of-the-art laboratories and have a varied background and experience. In the role of Laboratory Assistant, you will relieve the analysts of the chemical and microbiological laboratory and be the point of contact for colleagues from other teams who use laboratory supplies and services.

The Laboratory for Materials Research and Chemical Analysis (LMC) and the Laboratory for Microbiology (LMB) support the researchers of KWR and the water sector in applied scientific research into the control and use of chemical and microbiological processes in the extraction, treatment and distribution of water. The chemical and microbiological safety of the water cycle is also part of this. For this purpose, analyses are carried out using advanced techniques in various matrices including drinking water, surface water, groundwater and wastewater.
