For the team Water Infrastructure, we are looking for a medior (experienced) researcher (32-40 hours). Are you an enthusiastic, inventive and practice-oriented researcher who wants to work with us on various projects in the field of water infrastructure and implementation of the developed knowledge and tools in practice? Then we would like to meet you!

About the position

Within this position, your main focus in terms of work is mainly on the implementation of research results in practice, both at individual drinking water companies and sector-wide. In addition, you also realize various research and implementation projects in the field of modeling water quality, water distribution, transport and/or asset management. You bridge the gap between theory and practice by identifying opportunities for the developed knowledge and tools and implementing them in practice. Because you also support the water companies during the implementation phase, you have direct sight into the impact of your work.

Your work will include:

  • Using existing tools (such as EPANET, Gondwana, COMSOL) and developing new tools to solve issues in the field of optimal design, pipe replacement forecasts and monitoring water quality in the pipe network;
  • Implementing methods and tools at drinking water companies;
  • Translating knowledge and practical use/practice into codes of practice and supporting the drinking water sector in lobbying in standards committees;
  • (Co-)writing proposals, reports and making and giving presentations based on the research carried out;
  • You will work together with colleagues in the team Water Infrastructure, with colleagues in other teams within KWR and with experts from drinking water companies.

Your profile

You are an enthusiastic and driven practice-oriented researcher. You have knowledge of the practice of drinking water distribution and you are aware of developments in the sector. You can translate scientific research results into practice and you can translate questions from practice into a research need, in the short and long term. You enjoy anchoring (new) knowledge within water companies and presenting and publishing the results of successful implementations (inter)nationally. You see acquisition as a challenge and have extensive experience with it. In that respect, you will be given the opportunity to tap into new markets.

In order to be able to perform this function in the desired manner:

  • You have completed an academic education in an exact field (for example civil engineering, physics or measurement and control technology);
  • You have at least 4 years of relevant work experience in the sector (drinking water company, engineering firm) or related (energy sector). Experience in a possible PhD research at a university does not count in this matter);
  • Is your focus on implementing, acquiring and developing Drinking Water Codes of Practice (PCD);
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch (must have) and English language in speech and writing.

If you do not meet the full profile but are enthusiastic about the position, then we would also like te receive your motivation and CV.

The team

The Water Infrastructure team consists of twelve specialists with widely varying expertise. Challenging research projects on drinking water quality, quantity and pipe materials are our world. Our projects aim to support drinking water companies in the smart and sustainable design and maintenance of the pipe network with optimum  security of supply and water quality on tap.

We develop knowledge and new tools – models, analysis methods – that enable water companies to realise and maintain optimum water quality in the pipe network and sustainable supply.
